current The Volkswagen Caddy has been in production since 2004 and is the third generation of the compact delivery van. During this time, more than one and a half million cars were produced, a third of which had a wheelbase increased by 32 cm and the Maxi prefix. The first upgrade took place in 2010, and in 2015 the model received a second package of improvements so that the outdated Caddy could adequately compete with more recent classmates until the end of its assembly line life. And restyling is so large-scale that sometimes representatives of the company make a reservation, arguing that we have the fourth generation before us. Although, of course, this is the good old Caddy on the familiar PQ35 platform, and not on the new MQB.
The good-natured-looking Caddy has never looked so serious: a new radiator grille with two wide chrome strips rests in the center against a solid VW emblem, connecting faceted headlights. A fanged bumper with rectangular foglights would do honor to a powerful sedan, but it adorns a utilitarian "heel". The lanterns were also sharpened, cutting off frivolous roundness. On the tailgate rising up there is a “panoramic” glass that completely covers the pillars, and under it is a sweeping stamping for a license plate.
Inside it's practically Golf, but not the old one, but the latest, seventh generation, with the same comfortable steering wheel, but with a higher seating position, as it should be for a commercial vehicle. Of the advantages of such a landing and a lobed body - excellent visibility, and this is safety. In general, the emphasis is on safety systems: the Front Assist distance control system with the City Emergency Braking function has appeared, which independently brakes the car at speeds up to 30 km / h, avoiding one of the most common types of accidents when driving onto a main road from a secondary , the driver can be distracted by the traffic on the left and drive into the front car that has not yet managed to merge into the traffic. Passenger versions of the Caddy received, in addition to the already existing side airbags, curtain airbags for front and rear passengers. And to avoid a re-collision, which occurs in 22% of all accidents, the Caddy, even in the basic configuration, is now equipped with a Multicollision Brake system.
Among the options appeared adaptive high beam Light Assist, driver fatigue detection system Rest Assist and electric windshield heating. Innovations include adaptive cruise control, which operates at speeds from 30 to 160 km / h on a Caddy with a manual gearbox, and from 0 km / h to 160 km / h if the DSG “robot” is installed. In the latter case, Caddy can slow down in traffic until it comes to a complete stop, and then accelerate back to the set speed. Almost without the help of the driver, the “heel” can also park if you ordered Park Assist. Moreover, not only in parallel parking, but now the car can find a place for itself at right angles to the roadway, which is more relevant for commercial vehicles.
All versions of Caddy available in Ukraine now comply with Euro-5 environmental standards. The main violin, as before, is played by 1.6 TDI diesel units with a power of 75 hp. (225 Nm) and 102 hp (250 Nm) with a five-speed manual transmission, and the most powerful two-liter turbodiesel develops 150 hp, but so far it has not been delivered to us. Gasoline engines are represented by two units - a three-cylinder TSI with a power of 102 hp. and four-cylinder 1.4 TSI with 125 hp.
