Volkswagen Golf R - the fourth generation of the R-version, built on the basis of the last, which has already become the seventh generation "Golf". Outwardly, it differs from the “civilian” modifications by an aerodynamic body kit, large 18-inch sports wheels, as well as two “double-barreled” exhausts spaced on opposite sides of the rear bumper with a diffuser. In addition, the "base" Golf R includes bi-xenon headlights with LED elements, as well as tinted rear LED-lights.
The interior of the car is also emphatically decorated in a sporty way: seats with developed lateral support, combined fabric and Alcantara upholstery, a three-spoke steering wheel with a beveled base, on which the “R” badge flaunts.
In addition to everything, unlike the usual Golfs, the chassis of the R version is lowered by 20 mm and has a sporty setting. For a surcharge, you can order the Dynamic Chassis Control system, which will allow you to select driving modes, including Race Mode, as well as adjust the degree of shock absorber stiffness.
In order to emphasize the sporting skills of the Golf R car, by default it is equipped with the XDS + system, which can simulate a differential lock on both the front and rear axles. Thanks to the electronic assistant, the hot hatch can literally screw into turns. This effect is achieved during the dynamic passage of bends due to the braking of the inner wheel in relation to the rotation.
Unlike its predecessor, the new Golf R got the same two-liter "four" as "Golf" GTI. Nevertheless, thanks to the new cylinder heads, Volkswagen engineers managed to “supercharge” it to 300 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque, and starting from the 2017 model year, the turbo engine Erki produces 310 hp and 400 Nm. It is noteworthy that if the maximum power of a turbocharged engine is available only at 5,500-6,500 rpm, then the “shelf” of peak thrust is located in the widest range from 2,000 to 5,400 rpm.
Acceleration to “hundreds” of the Golf R with a six-speed “mechanics” takes 5.1 seconds, and with a seven-speed DSG “robot” – only 4.6 seconds. The maximum speed, regardless of the type of gearbox, is electronically limited to 250 km/h.
The car is available in both three- and five-door versions. Additional doorways are traditionally an option for the brand. All VW Golf Rs are equipped with the latest 4Motion permanent all-wheel drive system, based on the fifth generation of the Haldex mechanism, which, unlike its predecessor, should distribute torque between the wheels even more quickly.
