Volkswagen Passat NMS (New Midsize Sedan) is a front-wheel drive sedan intended for sales in North America. It has been produced since 2011 at the factories of the Volkswagen concern in the USA. A similar model can also be found in China and South Korea.
The official premiere of the Passat NMS took place in 2011 at the Detroit Auto Show. The production of this model was organized at the plant of the German concern in Chattanooga (Tennessee). Technically, it was still close to the one built on the same platform (PQ46) Passat B7 German assembly, although it differed from its relative in lighting technology, equipment, suspension settings, choice of engines and design. But finally the paths of the American and European Trade Winds diverged in 2015, when the Europeans were offered Passat B8 on the newer MQB platform, and in the USA they continued to assemble the old model.
The second generation of the American Volkswagen Passat debuted only January 2019 at the Detroit Auto Show as a 2020 model year vehicle.
